Half-title, engraved frontispiece and title-page, printed title-page, 2pp. address by the author, 3pp. preface, 4pp. contents, 2pp. Directions to the Binder/Errata, 41 plates by R. Seymour and H෴.K. Browne ("Phiz"), plates later issues with publisher's imprint, caption, and signature; a few stray spots, some primarily marginal browning to plates. Original purplish-black fine diaper cloth, covers stamped in blind with linear border enclosing central triple-lin♒e panel, spine lettered in gilt, with five linear rectangular panels, pale yellow endpapers; spine sunned, nearly split between half-title and frontis. Housed in custom slipcase and folding chemise.
First book edition of The Pickwick Papers, in the original publisher's cloth.
