Introduced in 1954, the Rolex GMT-Master emerged from a collaboration between the now-defunct airline Pan Am and Rolex. It ♎was conceived to meet the demands of an era where commercial air travel was rapidly expanding, with planes flying longer distances and crossing multiple time zones. As a result, pilots frequently found themselves navigating different time zones dur🍨ing flights, emphasizing the need for a standardized timekeeping solution.

To address this, the aviation industry adopted Greenwich Mean Time (GMT) as a standard reference. The GMT-Master was designed with a fourth hand, its 2nd hour hand, to continuously display GMT, while its main hour hand indicated local time. Although the aviation industry later transitioned to Coordinated Universal Time (UTC) in 1972, the GMT-Master retained its name due to i🍷ts longstanding reputation and recognition. Today, the GMT-Master stands as one of Rolex's most iconic models, unrivaled by most, if any, pilot's watches i🌳n terms of fame, popularity, and distinctive design.

The GMT-Master being presented here is a rare and significant example commissioned by the Sultanate of Oman, featuring a Khanjar engraving on its case back. Additionally🧸, the outer packaging bears the corresponding stamp, and the Warranty Card i stamped with the Omani retailer Khimji Ramdas. We are pleased tಌo offer this lot in overall excellent condition.
