Introduced in 1954, the Rolex GMT-Master emerged from a collaboration between the now-defunct airline Pan Am and Rolex. As a result, pilots frequently found themselves navigating different time zones dur🍨ing flights, emphasizing the need for a standardized timekeeping solution.

To address this, the aviation industry adopted Greenwich Mean Time (GMT) as a standard reference. The GMT-Master was designed with a fourth hand, its 2nd hour hand, to continuously display GMT, while its main hour hand indicated local time.
