In the canon of watchmaking, the Royal Oak certainly sta🎐nds out as an icon of design. While it was first introduced in 1972 as an ultra-thin time-only watch designed by the master Gerald Genta, it did not take long for Audemars Piguet to begin incorporating their high horology into the design of this iconic shape. Prior to the Royal Oak, AP was most known for their mastery of complications in precious metal cases. With the advent of the Royal Oak case, it presented the brand with a new canvas upon which to marry their haute horology with high design. The 25860ST is one such example of this marriage.
Utilizing a 39mm Royal Oak Case, it displays the same blue tapisserie design as the time-only models, but with three silver rings defining the chronograph sub-registers. The chronograph pushers at the 2 and 5 positions mimic the octagonal bezel and fit seamlessly into the overall design of the watch. Our present example remains service-𝓡sealed from Audemars Piguet, ensuring its overall condition is well preserved, and it comes with a Certificate of Authenticity confirming the watch. As an interesting aside, these watches are known in the collecting community as ‘Kasparov’s’, as this is the model prominently worn by renowned chess champion Garry Kasparov. Garry can often be seen in photographs wearing thཧis during his matches, adding a bold take on the idea of a chess-timer.
