FIRST EDITION OF THIS COLLECTION OF BIOGRAPHIES OF VENETIAN ADMIRALS, BOUND FOR JACQUES-AUGUSTE DE🐻 THOU WITH HIS ARMS AS A BACHELOR; LATER THE SOUBISE COPY. Though the present volume is "liber primus", subsequent volumes were never publish🍸ed. Small 8vo (150 x 103 mm). Italic type, 24 lines plus headline. collation: α8 A-K8: 88 leaves. Title-page with woodcut printer's device, woodcut 🐻initials.


binding: Near-contemporary limp vellum (154 x 110 mm), gilt arms of Jacques-Auguste de Thou as a bachelor, double gilt fillet border, flat spine gilt with de Thou's monogram, 5 false bands formed by 4 gilt fillets, 5-line title in second compartment, gilt edges, stubs from ♓two pairs of ties. (Very slight worming at edge of lower cover.𝓰)
