An old Japanese family collection.

This rare combination of green and aubergine enamels traces its origins to experimental dragon designs from the Kangxi period (1662-1722). Compare a similar green and aubergine Kangxi bowl preserved in the Palace Museum, Beijing, in Geng Baochang, ed., Gugong Bowuyuan cang gu taoci ciliao xuancui [Selection of ancient ceramic material from the Palace Museum], Beijing, 2005, vol. 2, pl. 88; and a closely related pair from the Meiyintang Collection, illustrated in Regina Krahl, Chinese Ceramics from the Meiyintang Collection, vol. II, London, 1994, pl. 888.

While the present combination of contrasting enamels continued to be admired in the Yongzheng and Qianlong periods and beyond, it is rare to find an example of this type bearing a Jiaqing mark; let alone a pair. Compare a single related example of Jiaqing mark and period, sold in our Paris rooms, 10th June 2014, lot 246; another, sold twice at Christie’s Hong Kong, 1st June 2011, lot 3999 and 4th October 2016, lot 152; and a pair preserved in the Powell-Cotton Museum, Birchington, included in Gordon Lang, The Powell-Cotton Collection of Chinese Ceramics, Birchington, Kent, 19🅰88🐭, cat. nos 109 and 110; the former previously in the Pope Collection.

此對盌器型尊貴，胎骨細膩，其燒造工藝頗為複雜，先於錐刻好的紋飾上填繪紫彩，高溫燒成後於留白處覆施綠釉，低溫再次燒成。燒這種官窯品質創燒於康熙年間（1662-1722年），當時宮廷匠師屢屢試驗新穎之龍紋設計，遂有此殊異之色彩配搭問世。北京故宮博物院藏有一件康熙時期之綠地紫彩龍紋盌可資參考，見耿寶昌主編，《故宮博物院藏古陶瓷資料選粹》，北京，2005年，卷二，圖版8🤪8；另梅茵堂收藏中亦存一對類似之例，著錄於康蕊君著《Chinese Ceramics from the Meiyintang Collection》，倫敦，1994年，卷二，圖版8♔88。

此種對比鮮明之綠紫低溫釉彩搭配，於雍正、乾隆乃至之後各朝，皆頗受宮廷推崇。然而，帶嘉慶款之作例實屬罕見，成對者尤為難得。可資比擬者，🍸見蘇富比巴黎拍賣之一件嘉慶單例，2014年6月10日，拍品編號246；另有一件曾兩度於香港佳士得拍賣，分別為2011年6月1日，編號3999，以及2016年10月4日，編號152；再參考英國肯特郡柏青頓鮑威爾-科頓博物館藏之一對嘉慶綠地紫彩龍紋盌，著錄於 Gordon Lang，《The Powell-Cotton Collection of Chinese Ceramics》，比爾琴頓，肯特，1988年，圖錄編號109及110，其中之一件原屬波普（Pope）舊藏。
