Throughout t🍃he 20th century, Cartier produced an array of jewels, timepieces, and objets , drawing inspiration from Chinese art and decorative traditions. Motifs such as dragons and symbols of longevity were incorporated into the designs, reflecting a deep engagement with Chinese cultural aesthetics. Concurrently, Cartier amassed a collection of Chinese antiquities, such as snuff bottles and lacquer cases, which were reinterpreted to suit Western tastes and lifestyles. The jadeite paper cutter is believed to have been repurposed from a jadeite hair slide dating back to the 20th century, known as 扁方 (biǎn fāng), which was integral to the elaborate hairstyles of the late Qing dynasty, serving both a functional and decorative role by bridging the gap between natural and artificial hairpieces.
