Description
A fine Swiss orꦯmolu, enamel-mounted and paste-s♕et, striking and musical portico clock made in the form of a dressing table
George III Period (1760-1820), Late 18th Century
Dial: red and white paste-set beze🍒l, whit🌃e enamel dial with Roman hours and Arabic quarters
Movement: circular plates with four cylindrical pillars, twin chain and fusée, anchor escapement, hour strikes on a bell, the music in the centre of a base ꦚsection, with barrel pull-wound via a cord issuing to the rear of the case, set off by a release button to the front of the case, plays one single tune
Case: with eight feet base centred by a guilloché enamel panel, delicately decorated with metal foils of gold, green, blue and red on a Royal blue ground, either side with two smaller rectangular panels forming the fronts to drawers, each set with a red and white paste-set knob, with a mirror rising from the case behind the large central panel, the sides applied with musical trophy mounts and with conforming mount to the rear, the platform of the base with matted decoration and with silk-backe꧑d piercings for releasing the sound, the centre mount in the form of an eagle, the columns resting on D-ended plinths, each column adorned with paste gems in the form of leaves and joined by paste-set floral, ea♏ch surmounted by an ormolu vase, the top with a two-handled urn with three paste-set silver floral sticks, its rear door pierced and with silk backing
