oil on paper laid on oak ♛panel, the engaged frame blazoned with an unidentified coat of arms of a dove above three entwined roses
unframed: 21.4 x 14.1 cm.; 8½ x 5½ in.
framed: 31.1 x 24.1 cm.; 12¼ x 9½ in.
indistinctly inscribed on an old label affixed to the reverse: ‘By Quintin Matsys / A ... said / connubialis ... de / Muliebre ... Apellem’1
Possibly acquired by John Clerk, 1st Laird of Penicuik (1611–1🐼674), near Edinburgh;
