APOLLO 15 FLOWN OKLAHOMA FLAG PRESENTED TO OKLAHOMA RꦐEPRESENTATIVE AND SPEAKER OF THE HOUSE CARL ALBERT
Carl Albert served as the 46th Speaker of the United States House of Rep💎resentatives from 1971-1977, which coincided with Apollo missions 14, 15, 16, and 17. He represented Oklahoma’s 3rd congressional district from 1947-1977.
It was not uncommon for American astronauts to fly state flags for friends or famil♊y, or for locations that had personal significance to the astronauts. As none of the Apollo 15 crew were from Oklahoma, this flag was likely flown with Carl Albert in mind.
The included photograph features Commander Dave Scott giving a military salute while standing beside the Unite💮d States flag, which had been deployed near the end of Scott and Irwin's second EVA. The present view looks due south, with Hadley Delta in the background rising approximately 13,124 feet above the plain.
