F.P. Journe

François-Paul Journe’s uncompromising approach to horological design and engineering has secured his place as a luminary of independent watchmaking. Introduced in 2003 as part of the Octa collection, the Octa Lune seamlessly integrates a poetic moon phase with practical complications—including a large date, small seconds, and power reserve indicator—into a movement that delivers an impressive five-day power reserve via a single barrel. This particular example, dating from circa 2008, features the desirable 40mm platinum case, introduced in the mid-2000s as a more contemporary evolution of the original 38mm format. The dial, crafted in 18K gold and finished in a refined silver tone, displays F.P. Journe’s signature off-centre layout. The guilloché subdials and blued steel hands are classic hallmarks of the manufacture’s refined aesthetic. Importantly, this watch showcases a first generation dial with the small numerals for 8 and 10, a detail collectors prize for its originality and charm. On later models, these numerals were enlarged—altering the visual rhythm of the dial. As such, this configuration represents a transitional and highly collectible version of the Octa Lune. Inside beats the self-winding calibre 1300.3, an 18K rose gold movement with a unidirectional winding rotor in 22K gold. As with all of Journe’s creations, it is beautifully finished and visible through the sapphire caseback. Offered in excellent condition, this watch is accompanied by its original box, guarantee card, and instruction manual. A superb example of F.P. Journe’s early 40mm production, this Octa Lune exemplifies the spirit of technical ingenuity, aesthetic balance, and collectibility that defines the brand’s enduring appeal.

It was in production for over 20 years and is a testimony of the transition from the vintage to the modern production. As an example, it went from tritium to luminova and superluminova as luminescent material.Extremely reliable and the perfect companion, it is no surprise that the 16570 has gained lots of attention from the market in the recent years. The watch was available either with a white or a black dial, such as this lot, which is more faithful to the original 1655 ‘Steve McQueen’ model.

Even if the 16520 was produced&nbsp;for only a dozen years, the model&nbsp;saw several developments, mainly consisting in the layout of the dial. In fact, 5 different changes have been identified.&nbsp; This piece belongs to the fourth evolution that corresponds to watches produced between the end of 1993 and 1998. The 4th series&nbsp;is recognizable with the introduction of new, flatter and bolder font for the numerals in the subsidiary dial as well as the "straight 6" in the chronograph hour&nbsp;subsidiary dial.&nbsp;It is the final series using tritium as luminescent material. The subsidiary dials of this specimen have highly attractive Patrizzi tropical brown, further enhancing the desirability of this timepiece. Additionally, the case has been preserved in superior condition, with attractive proportions and even the original green sticker on the case.
