S otheby’s is proud to present Tomorrow’s Tigers 2022, a selling exhibition between Artwise Curators and the WWF featuring specially commissioned, limited-edition rugs designed by 12 celebrated ar🔜tists from around the world, including Peter Doig and Ai Weiwei, and produced by the specialists Christopher Farr. With the exception of the Ai Weiwei’s unique contribution to this selling exhibition, the rug𝓰s are each made in a limited edition of up to 10, with profits supporting tiger conservation globally.

In this lunar year of the Tiger, the aim of this fundraising initiative is to support efforts to boost wild tiger numbers and to alleviate the threat posed to rapidly depleting wild tiger populations. Each of the artists involved in the project have taken inspiration from Tibetan Tiger Rugs and both the natural splendor and the plight of wild tigers༺ to realise their creations. Each piece is hand-crafted to museum quality with a combination of traditional and innovative weaving techniques. Originating in 19th-century Tibet, tiger rugs were first intended as 🐼gifts for monks (or lamas) and monasteries. The tiger skin was believed to possess the power to protect the monks during meditation.
