Mori Art Museum

Tokyo | Japan

Tokyo’s elevated platform for contemporary art

Opened in 2003 at the top of Tokyo’s Mori Tower by real estate developer Minoru Mori, the Mori Art Museum (MAM) was conceived as a cultural landmark where life, work, and leisure converge, with art above all else. Offering breathtaking views of the city, MAM is not only Japan’s highest exhibition space but also one of its most-visited museums. MAM showcases cutting-edge contemporary art, architecture, design and creative practices from around the world. As a leading center for contemporary art from Japan and the Asia-Pacific region, the museum is deeply committed to engaging the community and embodying its principle of “art and life.” While MAM has no permanent display, it houses a permanent collection of works from Japan and the wider Asia-Pacific region. The museum is renowned for its ambitious, large-scale exhibitions, which have featured Yayoi Kusama, Murakami Takashi, Ai Weiwei, Bill Viola, Cao Fei, Anish Kapoor and Jeff Koons. The museum’s program is both innovative and diverse, spotlighting Japanese contemporary artists alongside their peers from Asia, the West, and beyond.
