China’s premier platform for contemporary art

Founded in 2007 as the Ullens Center for Contemporary Art by noted collectors Guy and Myriam Ul൲lens, the UCCA Center for Contemporary Art (UCCA) emerged as one of China’s first private museums dedicated to modern and contemporary art. Today, it stands as a leading space for contemporary art in China. The comprehensive, not-for-profit art center now operates across four locations in Beijing, Shanghai, Beidaihe and Jiangsu province, with a mission to bring exceptional art to a broad audience and foster cultural exchange. Since its inception, UCCA has curated an ambitious exhibitions program that traces the development of Chinese art, including wꦅith solo shows by artists such as Cao Fei, Huang Rui, Xu Bing and Zhao Gang, alongside presentations of international artists such as Matthew Barney, Olafur Eliasson and Maria Lassnig. As part of its focus on contemporary creation, the museum is deeply committed to nurturing emerging Chinese artists through exhibitions and innovative programs.
UCCA Beijing, the original location, is situated in the heart of Beijing’s 798 art district in rꦅe✱purposed 1950s military factory buildings originally designed by the Dessau Design Institute. Its signature Great Hall is among the many exhibition spaces that host its boundary-pushing exhibitions.
UCCA Edge opened in 2021 across three floors of the new Edge tower in Shanghai’s Jing’an district. A vibrant addition to the cultural community, the museum mounts exhibitions of Chinese and international artists, many of which are developed specifically for Shanghai audiences.
