Sotheby's Talks: Shakespeare: A Man For All Time
with Sam Leith, Emma Smith, Tracy-Ann Oberman and Joseph Kloska
Monday 19 May 2025 | 6:30 PM (Doors Open 6:00 PM)
34–35 New Bond Street, London W1S 2RT

Join🤡 us for an exploration of the endlessly fascinating world of Shakespeare — not as a fixed literary monument, but as a writer whose works remain alive and constantly open to reinterpretation. Every director, every actor brings their own vision to the plays, and each generation discovers something new.

This special evening will bring together leading voices from the worlds of scholarship and performance: Emma Smith, Professor of Shakespeare Studies at Oxford; Tracy-Ann Oberman, wh𒆙o recently starred as Shylock in her own adaptation of The Merchant of Venice; and acclaimed actor Joseph Kloska.

As a 1640 edition of Shakespeare’s poems and a rare late quarto of Julius Caesar go under the hammer, the evening will feature lively discussion, fresh insights and a performative element that will reveal just how adaptable and relevant Shakespeare remains today.
