  • Ch. Palmer 1966
    Palmer arguably made one of the top wines in 1966. This is still one of the top Palmers for me, alongside 1961 and 1970. —Richard Young
  • Screaming Eagle, Second Flight 2013
    Don’t mistake this wine as a “lesser” Screaming Eagle. Second Flight is their more Merlot-dominant bottling. It’s a personal favorite and a much more elegant expression of Napa Valley. —Richard Young

    This is a classically styled Left Bank Bordeaux from a historic property in the blockbuster 2005 vintage. It’s a wine with the structure to age but possesses a ripeness of fruit that is enjoyable now. —Lukas Dempsey
  • Don Pedro Ximenez Convento, Bodegas Toro Albala, 1910 -1965 (6 BT)
    Toro Albala is the benchmark producer of Pedro Ximenez Sherry, having pioneered this style of wine in 1970. These wines are decadent, complex and seemingly immortal. If you are a fan of sweet wine, this is not one to miss. —Lukas Dempsey
  • Amarone della Valpolicella Classico 2004 Giuseppe Quintarelli (3 Mag)
    This is one of the last vintages from legendary winemaker Guiseppe Quintarelli, who established a cult following with the quality of his Amarone. This is a wine made only in great vintages, and the fact that these are magnums makes them all the more rare. —Lukas Dempsey
  • Syrah Per Sempre 2012 Tua Rita (12 BT)
    If you like Côte-Rôtie, you should give this Syrah from Maremma in Tuscany a try. I don't usually think of Italy for Syrah, but this Tua Rita Per Sempre has that girilled meat and salami note that I adore in the Northern Rhône. —Alex Cubbage
  • Romanée St. Vivant Follin-Arbelet “Vertical” (11 BT)
    Several years ago, my dear friend Michele, who used to be the wine director for Blue Hill in NYC, introduced me to Follin-Arbelet. The wines are exactly what I want in a glass of Burgundy – a wine that speaks of its place and is still affordable. My belief is that, among the grands crus of Vosne-Romanée, Romanée St. Vivant is the one to buy if you want to drink very well but aren’t looking to reach for Romanée-Conti or La Tache. This vertical lot would make such a fun wine dinner – hint, hint… —Alex Cubbage

    Altenberg de Bergheim Domaine Marcel Deiss “Vertical” (6 BT)
    This is Alsace at its best! Marcel Deiss is a brilliant winemaker dedicated to showcasing terroir above all else. His controversial vinification method of blending all grape varietals co-planted within a vineyard site has earned him both praise and scorn, but there is no arguing with the end result. —Allen Morgan

    This wine project flies fairly under-the-radar compared to Bob Levy and Martha McLellan’s time at Napa Valley’s most iconic wineries (Harlan and Sloan). You can really see what is possible when two legendary winemakers make wine without any restrictions. —Richard Young
  • Hermitage, Le Gréal 2006 Marc Sorrel (12 BT)
    This is a wine that is not talked about nearly enough! While names like Chave often dominate conversations about Hermitage, Sorrel is a closely kept secret by those in the know. His flagship bottling, Les Gréal, is not to be missed. Over 90 percent of the grapes are sourced from the famous Le Méal vineyard, and the remainder come from Le Greffieux. Le Méal brings richness and power, while Les Greffieux offers a touch of elegance to make for an impactful and impressive bottle. —Alex Cubbage
