Sotheby’s inaugural sale of Magnificent Jewels and Noble Jewels at the Mandarin Oriental hotel in Geneva last night was headlined by ‘The Apollo and Artemis Diamonds’ which sold for US$57,425,478 / CHF 57,118,750, becoming the most valuable pair of earr🦂ings ever sold at auction. There was dynamic bidding on the phone, online and in the room throughout with the sale totalling US$151,546,458 / CHF 150,737,000. Over 90% of the lots offered found buyers with two thirds of them reaching prices in excess of the high estimate. Multiple world auction records were set including an auction record price for a Fancy Intense Purplish Pink diamond at US$13,245,750 / CHF13,175,000 as well as the record price per-carat for the same stone at $1,881,499.
