On 6 June, guests enjoyed an evening of cocktails, conversation and contemporary art at Seattle’s innovative art space . The evening, cohosted by Sotheby’s and the kicked off with a private tour of led by the show’s curator, Greg Bell, who discussed works on view by Agnes Martin, Mark Rothko, David Hockney and Philip Taaffe. A spirited panel, moderated by Sotheby’s Lucian Simmons, followed, with conversation delving into the fundamentals of building an art collection. “Art is like wine – I like what I like and not really sure why I like it,” said Angela Sꦺtowell, renoꦆwned local restaurateur. Julia Dolan of the Portland Art Museum and Josef Vascovitz of Garrett Addison Consulting discussed the cultural importance of art collecting. “When you buy a piece of art you steward the work through everything you can do to help the artist, museums and the community,” said Vascovitz.
