Grandiose museum complex

Formerly the residence of the Grand Dukes of Tuscany and later of the King of Italy, the Pitti Palace is one of Florence's largest architectural monuments, its largest museum and among its most-visited institutions. Named after its first owner, the Florentine banker Luca Pitti, today the Pitti Palace houses several galleries and museums that include important collections of paintings and sculpture, porcelain, costumes and other works of art. The magnificently decorated historical setting extends to the Boboli Gardens, one of the earliest formal gardens in Italy, which is f♏amous for its fountains and grottoes.
