The catalogue illustration is representative of the painting. The canvas appears to have an old relining and the paint surface is in OK condition. There is retouching visible to the naked eye along seven vertical creases running the length of the canvas and spaced at regular intervals, which would suggest that the canvas has been rolled up at some point. There are also scattered retouchings to old abrasions as are most noticeable at the canvas edges. Elsewhere the paint is thin in places. Inspection under UV reveals extensive retouching to the aforementioned creases and to the abrasions at the canvas edges. There is also alot of retouching to the areas of shadow, for example the upper right and on the putti, predominantly concentrated in their lower bodies. There is also evidence of two small horizontal tears to the left, one above the kneeling putto, the other in his torso. Offered in a red marbleized wood frame in fair condition.
