STRUCTURE The canvas has been lined and there are two small patches verso in the lower right and lower centre. PAINT SURFACE The painting appears to be in good condition with no apparent damage or loss of paint. There is some minor old retouching along the edges of the canvas to old stretcher bar marks, however the painting is in stable condition and requires no further restoration. ULTRAVIOLET Examination under ultraviolet light reveals some minor retouching to the fleshtones of the sitter's face particularly in the lower forehead and around the right hand eye and cheek. There are a very small number of minor scattered retouchings to areas in the background but otherwise the picture appears to be in good condition. FRAME Held in a semi-painted, semi gilded wooden frame.
