the base repoussé with the Imperial eagle within a laurel wreath, the border engraved with an inscription describing the presentation of the kovsh to Burgomaster Semen Ageev of the Kaluga State Houses (Kruzhechnye dvory) for funds collected in 1703, the handle engraved with the Imperial eagle, the prow set with a cast Imperial eagle, struck with maker's mark IPsS (Postnikova-Losseva no. 2587), Church Slavonic date for 1704, and Moscow city mark
Condition
Generally good condition. The cast eagle on the prow with some small loss (the crowns, sceptre and orb ground down?), some loss of gilding consistent with age
