Christ standing in a frontal position, with his right hand raised in a blessing gesture and his left hand holding an open Gospel book, to either side of Him, standing in prayer St John the Forerunner, holding a medallion with Christ Emmanuel before his breast and St John the Theologian, holding a closed Gospel Book, kneeling at Christ's feet the monk St Michael and the Princess St Irina

The border stripped to the ghesso ground, the painting covered with some dirt and darkened varnish

The rare iconography of the icon might be connected with the first Romanov Tsar Michael I (1596-1645) and his first born, Tsarevna Irina (1627-1679). The unusual text in the open Gospel Book that Christ is holding is taken from Matthew (25.34): Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you. This text is exclusively used in connection with high ranking commissioners. T꧃he t🍃wo red wax seals and the text written in black ink on the reverse of the panel have not been identified yet.
