禮儀彬彬古意盎然

古代中國之魅力,不止是服飾之雍雅華麗,還有一份逐漸被現代社會淡忘的涵養風度。《掬親》除了呈現陳逸飛仕女作品一貫的東方美態,還追溯詩禮傳家的教化傳統。畫中仕女丰姿,帶有深邃的象徵意義:古人行見面之禮,男子作揖,女子萬福,此「萬福」之禮正如畫中仕女一般,雙手置於衿前合拜,從戰國帛畫、漢唐陶俑以至宋元以後的文學作品,俱有豐富記錄。相較於作揖,萬福之禮更富儒家底蘊,其源自《詩經》〈小雅.蓼蕭〉「和鸞雍雍,萬福攸同」以及〈小雅.桑扈〉「彼交匪敖,萬福來求」兩句,是女子行禮的祝頌辭,寓載溫柔敦厚的東方文化。

除此以外,藝術家還刻意為仕女安排一柄紈扇。紈扇自東漢開始,便成為女性涵養氣質之襯托,有如塵拂之於隱士,杜牧「銀燭秋光冷畫屏,輕羅小扇撲流螢」、王建「團扇、團扇,美人并來遮面」等,都透過這件隨身用品,側面寫出女性柔情。肖像作品中的道具,往往是藝術家構圖佈局、塑造人物個性的重要一環。

立足東方的浪漫寫實主義

陳逸飛的藝術風格,在八○年代已被《紐約時報》和《藝術新聞》譽為「浪漫寫實主義」。儘管在紐約大學亨特學院攻取碩士,但藝術家早在留學以前,已經在上海藝術專科學校奠定堅實的繪畫基礎,作品亦流露出濃厚的東方元素。《掬親》展示了一絲不苟的寫實技巧以外,還加入了藝術家匠心獨運的創意,表現出意境朦朧的特殊效果,營造浪漫氛圍,讓觀者仿佛徘徊於現實與夢幻之間,呼應其「海上舊夢」的主題。背景上一片饒有質感的灰色,使得畫中仕女能擺脫時代制肘,流露跨越古今的美感,與西方寫實大師如卡拉瓦喬在人物畫中常用的黑色背景相比,令人物顯得柔和,與此同時,亦更接近宋代以來人物寫真經常採用的留白背景,倍添東方韻味。
