情創作之時。本幅署具體日期，即公曆七月上旬，與編號1148 之〈漁
人罷釣歸〉寫於同月，亦即畫家將返港再轉赴成都之際。〈讀書秋樹根〉
乃其筆下常見題材，畫中高士席地捧卷誦讀，有老樹瘦竹相伴。他運
筆細謹，綫條準確，勾劃精鍊，設色輕淡清爽，可謂賞心悅目，反映
了畫家此刻暫得避地武陵之心境。
