Condition
In good condition, with no apparent enamel loss. Enamelling is well-executed, giving the locket a nice texture. Mounted in silver behind mirror side, gold behind portrait side. Glass on portrait may have been later replaced, very blue-green in color like modern glass. Mirror glass appears to be original to the piece and is slightly watermarked around one edge. The locket opens by sliding the halves apart at the bottom.
In response to your inquiry, we are pleased to provide you with a general report of the condition of the property described above. Since we are not professional conservators or restorers, we urge you to consult with a restorer or conservator of your choice who will be better able to provide a detailed, professional report. Prospective buyers should inspect each lot to satisfy themselves as to condition and must understand that any statement made by Sotheby's is merely a subjective qualified opinion. Prospective purchasers are reminded that, unless the catalogue description specifically states that a stone is natural, we have assumed that some form of treatment may have been used and that such treatment may not be permanent. Our presale estimates reflect this assumption.
NOTWITHSTANDING THIS REPORT OR ANY DISCUSSIONS CONCERNING CONDITION OF A LOT, ALL LOTS ARE OFFERED AND SOLD "AS IS" IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE CONDITIONS OF SALE PRINTED IN THE CATALOGUE.

拍品資料及來源
The portrait in this pendant-locket is based off an etching produced in 1913 by Mikhail Rundaltsov (Russian, 1871-1935). Titled 'Tsarevich Alexei in a Sailor Suit,' the etching depicts the Tsarevich with the Imperial Yacht 'Shtandart' in the background. A very faint signature for Rundalstov can be found on the bottom right corner of this portrait.
This locket is accompanied by a lock of hair which was encased in the interior of the piece. According to family tradition, this hair is that of Tsarevich Alexei.
