描述
- wood, lacquer
lavishly painted in three tones of gilt with red highlights on a black lacquer ground, an idyllic representation of West Lake in Hangzhou with courtly ladies and gentlemen gathered in pavilions amidst brdiges and boats, all set within a wide band reserved with narrative vignettes on a foliate ground, enframed by a narrow border of writhing dragons amidst clouds, the reverse with a lively historic battle scene perhaps from the 'Romance of the Three Kingdoms' with foot soldiers and cavalry in combat while elaborately armored generals look on from above
