In 1930 the Swiss business man and watch collector César de Trey travelled through India and attended a polo match at a club of British officers. One of the officers had just broken the glass of his watch during a match and challenged César de Trey to make a watch tough enough to stand up to this rough environment.
With the assistance of LeCoultre, who developed the movement and Jaeger S.A., who created the case the patented Reverso was born. Made-up of pivoting catches and clicks housed within a case able to slide within its support and turn-over completely on its axis. The first Reverso measured 38 x 24 mm, a size that still presented in the classical models of today. Jaeger S.A. and LeCoultre officially became Jaeger-LeCoultre in 1937.
The Reverso remains extremely popular today and has not lost any of its fascination among collectors.
