Colour and Clarity: According to both AGL and SSEF reports, the sapphire is natural, of Ceylon origin, with no indications of heating. SSEF appendix letter states that, this exceptional sapphire "exhibits a highly impressive size and weight of 102.614 ct, combined with an attractive blue colour and a fine purity....... A natural sapphire from Ceylon of this size and quality is very rare and exceptional." Please refer to the reports and letter for details. In our opinion, the sapphire is of saturated blue colour, eye clean with good live. Upon 10x loupe, there only some fine silk inclusions, otherwise very clean. Diamonds are E to G colours, VS clarity. Condition: Impressive necklace, with signs of normal wear to the metal, overall in very good condition.

滿載湛藍寶石的島嶼

來自斯里蘭卡的藍寶石最特別之處是其驚人的淨度，配給其純正的藍色調子，閃耀出奪目的火光。如此懾人的藍色寶石早於公元五百年前已被開發和買賣，並且深得伊特魯里亞人、希臘和羅馬人的喜愛和追捧。斯里蘭卡現已被視為世界上最早開採藍寶石和其他珍貴寶石的地方，而因為此地所蘊藏豐富的藍寶石，而且質素極佳，所以古印度稱斯里蘭卡為「Ratnadeepa」，意思是「寶石的島嶼」，以反映礦物的繁盛。不少世界有名的藍寶石都源自斯里蘭卡，包括現藏於美國史密森尼學會國家自然歷史博物館的兩件珍貴藏品：極具份量的422.99卡拉洛根藍寶石，以及由卡地亞設計的俾斯麥藍寶石項鏈。

最頂級的斯里蘭卡藍寶石擁有中深度至鮮艷的藍色，在色調方面相對緬甸的藍寶石較為輕一點，但體積也相對較大，而且顏色的分佈往往出奇地均勻。原因是寶石內部在非常微小的針狀物，可以將光線平均地折射到每個切面上，讓它的顏色變得份外誘人。儘管跟其他地區出產的頂級藍寶石一樣，因為未有經過任何加工處理，全天然的藍寶石少不免之會有極少量的內含物，但斯里蘭卡卻以其純淨度見稱，促成光線穿透，淨澈明亮，所以其火光尤其出眾，甚至比顏色再深、再濃郁的藍寶石更受歡迎。比較其他產地的藍寶石，斯里蘭卡藍寶的顏色經常混有紫偏色，色彩未必如緬甸藍寶般純淨鬱藍。但拍品1766這顆產自斯里蘭卡的藍寶石完全沒有紫偏色，色彩濃郁純正，而且淨度超凡，十倍鏡下幾乎沒有瑕疵，堪稱萬中無一。

現今逾95%的藍寶石都經過加工處理，以改善其外觀和淨度，因此超過20卡拉全天然的斯里蘭卡藍寶石已少之又少，如果藍寶石的顏色分佈均勻、濃郁飽和、又火光閃爍，那這麼一顆斯里蘭卡藍寶石就更見稀珍。眼前這顆斯里蘭卡藍寶石正是如此罕有的一顆寶石，重達驚人的102.61卡拉，完全未有經過加熱處理，呈現來自「寶石島嶼」最完美的藍彩，造就了彌足珍貴的華麗珠寶。
