Prouvé was interested in the reconstruction efforts after World War II. The French Minister for Reconstruction commissioned him to design for low-budget and easy-to-assemble houses. Made with interchangeable metal panels, they were meant to be mass produced. From the 25 first ordered, only 14 were installed in Meudon, in the suburb of Paris. The remaining pieces, over the years, have become sought-after objects among collectors.
