註：「孟獲城」位於四川雅安，因〈三國演義〉孔明七擒孟獲之故事而得名。該地為彝族聚居，紅軍當年長征路過其地時，與彝民相處融洽，消弭民族間之隔閡猜疑，故安然而過。一九五六年，陶一清參加中央軍委文化部組織的長征路線寫生訪問團，重踏當年路過之地，為創作長征畫卷搜集素材，留下了多幅據此衍生之作。本幅即其一。

畫中見村居散落於重山叠嶺間，巨石嶙峋突兀，曲流穿越而出，畫家以小斧劈法刻劃其險峻之勢，渴筆擦染，極盡其地貌之特質，從中再現當年行軍之艱。
