註：抗戰烽煙，羊城陷敵，鄧芬避兵港澳間。敵偽政府廣招文藝界人士，以示局面安定，粉飾太平。鄧芬乃粵中畫壇名宿，與汪精衛有舊，向獲賞識，自成延攬對象。四二年夏，與伶界梅蘭芳、薛覺先等，被迫北上參加「廣州觀光團」。翌年，經港重返，寓省垣愛群大廈，加入「華南美術協會」。雖暫脫生活困窘，惟身不由己，苦沾「漢奸」之名，遂有「泳人」印，自嘲「落水」之誤。另畫蘭贈好友鄭春霆，題「何處託根無淨土，一根留得所南栽」，以明心迹。如此經歷，見諸畫迹者極稀。本幅寫於一九四三年，題「還家羊城」，又曰「識在愛群廔上」，即此段期間所出，所謂「遣興」，或身處行止進退失據之際，為排愁解憂，遂寄情於佛道中。
