上款：「旨實」即謝建華（1899-1975），江西贛州人。縣諸生，入民國，歷任國民革命軍少校、上海市公安局督察員等職。三十年代供職於中央大學，後曾出任立法委員。四九年赴台。

謝氏之兄謝壽康，乃早期歐洲留學生團體「天狗會」成員，與日後揚名於文化藝術界之徐悲鴻等早訂深交。謝氏昆仲先後任職於中央大學，與徐悲鴻、黃君璧等過從甚密，與陳之佛亦具仝事之誼。抗戰勝利後，中央大學遷回南京，陳之佛一度代理藝術系主任，本幅即為任內寫贈謝建華。
