taken from a larger vita icon and preserved as a diptych, the left panel depicting the ordination of St. Nicholas, the right showing the miracle of the carpet each panel with gilt metal basma oklad, apparently unmarked, fitted with hinge and swing closure, covered with printed cotton

Condition
the panel with areas of loss and repair consistent with age, the gilt metal with small areas of splitting, also consistent with age; the cloth backing with some areas of fading; the metal hinges of uncertain age, the hasp closure probably circa 1900; the wood surfaces treated with a protective sealant (B72) that is easily removed
