The following lots belonged to Sarah Spencer Morgan (1839-1896), daughter of Junius Spencer Morgan and his wife Juliet Pierpont, and thus sister of J.P. Morgan, born two years earlier. On June 27, 1866 she married her cousin George Hale Morgan (1840-1911), a banker who worked with her brother. After her father’s death from a carriage accident in 1890, her share of his $10 million estate allowed the couple to build Ventfort Hall in Lenox, Massachusetts. Finished in 1893, the house is now a Museum of the Gilded Age.
