raised on scroll-and-ball feet, handles terminate in rococo cartouches, engraved on one side with arms, supporters and motto TOUT EST VANITE below a coronet and above arms, other side with arms only, cover with melon finial

small dings throughout, engravings worn and decoration softened, cover with small dent to rim, interior with scratches from use, otherwise good condition

The arms, which show all her titles, are those of Agar, for Ellis Agar, daughter of James Agar and Mary Wemyss. She married 1st in 1726 Theobald Bourke, 7th Viscount Mayo, and on his death, secondly Francis Bermingham, 14th Baron Athenry (1692-1750), In 1758 she was granted, for life only, the title of Countess of Brandon, in the county of Kilkenny. The title became extinct on her death on March 11, 1789.
