The Dowry services for the granddaughters of Catherine the Great are decorated with Italianate scenes copied from grand illustrated sources such as Della Magnificenze di Roma antika e moderna. Da Giuseppe Vasi da Corleone (Rome, 1764) and Antichita Romane opera di Giambatista Piranesi (Rome, 1756). Interestingly, the factory painter copying a print from a volume of views of Italy has reproduced the Temple of Juno at Agrigento rather than the Temple of Concord. The Dowry Service for Grand Duchess Ekaterina Pavlovna (1788-1818) was finished between 1799 and 1802. This plate has no cypher mark, an occurrence more common during the period of Alexander I and for that reason is dated to that period.
