Lots 148 and 149 were previously owned by W.R. “Billy” Wilkerson (1890-1962) who rose to prominence in Hollywood as a producer and founder of The Hollywood Reporter, and eventually working in Las Vegas, Nevada, assisting in the establishment of the Flamingo Hotel alongside Bugsy Siegel. From the 1930s opening of LaRue in 1950 in Las Vegas (with the Flamingo opening in 1945), Wilkerson enjoyed a career spanning several decades of establishing nightclubs and hotels in the Southwest.
Wilkerson’s column in a 1946 issue of The Hollywood Reporter is cited as the beginning of the Hollywood Blacklist in its announcement of members of the Hollywood community ౠas Communist sympathizers. This list, known as “Billy’s Blacklist” morphed into the House of Un-American Activities Committee’s names whi♉ch were called to testify to the inclusion of communist propaganda in films.
