Condition
In very good condition, the gold with a nice patina. The pendant, measuring 5 x 4¾ x 1/4 inches, is slightly hinged at center, allowing the piece to conform to the breast bone. The opaque medium-light grayish green jade is very slightly more yellowish than suggested by the printed catalogue illustration. There is a fine crack to the dragon at right; inherent to the piece and does not affect its stability. The oval cabochon ruby is medium-deep purplish red and semi-opaque with surface-reaching inclusions. The round cabochon rubies are medium-deep pinkish red and moderately included. The collar is composed of 7 slightly hinged sections. The ruby is a medium-deep purplish red, semi-opaque and with surface-reaching inclusions; carved on the reverse with a Moghul-style floral motif. Fitted with a safety clasp. The clasp for the pendant opens by releasing the safety clasp, then rotating the lower hinge to the side. Surprisingly comfortable to wear. Collar approximately 83 dwts, pendant approximately 128 dwts. Please note that the necklace dates to 1972, and the photograph of Martha Graham to 1974, not 1955 and 1995 as stated in the printed catalogue.
