Condition
The campus has a modern lining. Overall this picture is in good condition and presents a strong image to the naked eye. There is a bit of surface dirt visible in the sky but the coloration and paint details are well preserved overall. UV ligjht reveals only a few minor retouches scattered around the edges, as well as a more concentrated retouch in the center left sky, however there are some possibly discolored patches of retouching visible to the naked eye in the left sky which do not clearly fluoresce. In a carved and painted gilt wood frame.

拍品資料及來源
This painting is by Bernardo Canal, father of the celebrated Canaletto. The composition derives from Canaletto's drawing from 1719/20 which he took back to Venice after his Roman sojourn and which remained in his studio until the 1740s, when Bernardo Bellotto took the drawing with him on his travels through Europe.1
We are indebted to Charles Beddington for his kind assi🍬stance in cataloguing this lot.
