上款：「哲夫」即蔡守（1879-1941），廣東順德人。幼讀經史，兼通雜學，詩詞吉金，無不涉獵。早年加入南社，襄助黃節、鄧實主理〈國粹學報〉，著作有〈寒瓊碑目〉、〈寒瓊金石跋續〉、〈印雅〉等。

註：一九○七年，蔡、黃相識於滬上，以金石書畫論交，且同屬南社，友誼垂逾卅載，他對賓虹畫藝播揚貢獻尤多。賓虹在滬創立「貞社」，以保存國粹，弘揚民族藝術為旨，蔡氏等人同年亦於廣東設立分社，本幅以蔡氏室號入畫，上款稱曰「社兄」，蓋二人南社、貞社俱為社友。畫上未署年款，按畫風與題款書法觀之，似為二十年代前之作。又具順德學者何覺及居粵版本專家王貴忱藏印，可知遞藏先後皆在廣東。
