語堂道兄左右，紐約握別，忽忽遂將一載，懸渴無似，近聞歸國結宅陽明山中，欣羨欣羨。維興居清勝，為頌為慰。弟之義妹費曼爾，公所悉識，將於三月中旬及五月份在康城、巴黎兩處展覽拙作，倘蒙寵錫雄文為目錄前序，延卷於彼都人士，收效當益宏大，恃愛妄求，悚息悚息。曼爾即日來臺，特囑晉謁，望賜接見，毋任感節。一月卅日，大千弟張爰頓首頓首，並頌夫人萬福。

註：本幅內容述及畫家義妹、旅歐著名聲樂家費曼爾即將訪台，拜謁林語堂並代求畫展序言一事。以林氏於一九六六年定居台北，信札所署日期「一月卅日」，故似寫於六七年初。至於法國展覽，未知是否成事，蓋因郭子杰於六五年底突返中國，大千歐洲展覽活動即生變。而林語堂應邀所撰序文，或見於大千一九六八年底於美國巡迴之近作展。
