本幅乃畫家寫贈印度畫家蘇可拉 （Y.K. Shukla）。
蘇可拉，一九○七年生於印度，於孟買習美術，一九三四年赴意大利進修，入羅馬藝術學院習版畫，以優異成績畢業，返國從事教育工作。一九四七年考獲政府獎學金，赴中國習美術，以促進兩國文化交流。他在四七年抵北平，先習中文，再轉入國立北平藝術專科學校，師事徐悲鴻、王青芳。翌年六月畢業，先後在北京大學及南京中央大學舉行畫展。
他甚仰中國文化藝術，對繪畫、篆刻均有所長，亦諳裝裱。時任北京大學校長胡適及藝專校長徐悲鴻對他甚垂顧，為籌辦其展覽奔走盡力。徐氏對他影響尤深，屢有贈畫，題材包括奔馬、喜鵲、山水等。此外，傅抱石、黃君璧、齊白石、王青芳亦有作品饋贈。這批作品經他帶返印度，直到上世紀九十年代後期方在倫敦釋出，本幅即其一。
