上款：「槐準」即韓槐準（1892-1970），海南文昌人，後移居新加坡，活躍於當地文化界。抗戰期間，南來星洲之文藝界人士與韓氏多有交往，其寓所「愚趣園」遂成為文人聚會之所，如郁達夫、黃葆芳、黃曼士皆座上客，徐悲鴻亦與其中，並一度寓此。其間，興之所至，連夜起來作畫，故韓氏得贈作品甚多。日軍南進，臨近星洲時，悲鴻亦將部分珍藏藝術品託其保存。
一九四一年，畫家絡驛於星馬途中，本幅是年夏寫於星洲，應屬六、七月間所出。畫上取唐子西〈醉眠〉詩句，寫鵝憩息於綠茵上，見慵懶之姿，似是悲鴻在風塵僕僕中稍得喘息空間而寫此自適。
