來源
西班牙駐華外交官內眷穆夫人舊藏,其丈夫於上世紀三十年代服務於該國駐北平使館,直到一九四九年。蓋其姓為「MUNIZ」,中文轉音曰「穆」,故畫家或有題款,皆曰「穆夫人」。故都居停期間,她約於四十年代向蔣兆和購置一批作品,又或得自友輩轉贈。
這批作品包括畫家三十年代晚期至四九年前之作,俱以寫實為主,多以刻劃舊京低下層生活為題。取材若此,既不討好,畫法亦與傳統迥異,或未為時人所重,卻切合西方好寫實之審美品味,故特為穆夫人所賞,遂刻意搜求,積累頗多,返國時一併携走,存於馬德里,直至上世紀末,逐漸釋出,這批從未公開之蔣氏精品,方一一重現國人跟前,本幅即屬其一。
穆夫人藏蔣氏畫,或寫於高麗箋,或寫於粗糙皮紙,皆保持當年原裝裱,裱工大多簡陋。本幅則鑲以牡丹紋織錦,或為入藏時付諸良工重裱。畫背具西班牙文畫題「vieja」(老婦)及畫家姓名,乃穆夫人親筆,並具其簽名,此亦為其藏品之特徵。

註:一九三八年,舊京已陷敵,畫家定居於此,任教於京華美術學院,期間創作了不少刻劃底層社會百姓生活百態之作品,其中西結合之技法,細緻深刻描劃出筆下入畫對象之精神面貌,筆觸流露其悲天憫人之人道主義精神。本幅寫流落街頭之老婦,風霜佈臉,衣衫襤褸,擕籃扶杖,正是行乞求施捨之慘象。從其題曰「旗人末路」,可知乃八旗子弟於清室遜位後失去倚恃,錦衣玉食,頓成泡影,謀生乏術,淪為流丐,畫家寫來既憐且諷,與穆夫人所藏另幅〈飽食終日〉,具異曲同調之旨。
