註：吳歷（1632-1718）字漁山，號墨井道人，又號桃溪居士，江蘇常熟人。學畫於王時敏，問詩於錢謙益，學琴於高士陳砥阮，皆得其指授。早年遍臨宋、元人真跡，畫名日著。後從天主教士柏應理至澳門，越七年而歸。傳教於上海、嘉定等地。與“四王”及惲壽平有“清六家”之稱。書法蘇軾。著《桃溪集》、《三巴集》、《墨井畫跋》。
吳歷山水以“元四家“為宗，而尤得力於王蒙，亦兼有黃公望與吳鎮之長。此幅為擬古之作，裱禙有吳湖帆題籤「吳墨井老年擬古神品」。畫寫遠山翠谷，溪山漁隱，筆墨蒼渾厚重，深蘊王蒙之筆法。有行楷題七言一首：「山水元無有定形，筆遂人意運幽深。排分竹柏煙雲裏，領略真能瑩道心。」吳歷筆下之山水，與"四王"如出一轍，深受董玄宰尚"南宗"文人畫的影響，追求筆遂人意，筆墨出入元四家之間。此幅為吳歷老年之筆，雖擬古之作，但已形成厚重細密的皴石表現，其風格更為渾厚華滋。此幅曾歸吳湖帆"梅景書屋"所藏，亦為王季遷審定過目。
