拍品資料及來源

Arifien’s oeuvre is coloured by scenes of everyday life. A favourite theme was human relationships set up within domestic dramas and routines. He is able to transform ordinary and benign details into emotional portrayals of a single moment. This is apparent through the subtle expressions and gestures of the individuals who make up the paintings. In the two present works, In The Powder Room and Fall in Love Again, the women are staged in arresting storylines. How the characters inhabit their spaces, as well as the details of the interior scenes themselves, are all reminiscent of theatre sets, instilling a specific mood and tone in the compositions.

The two women perfectly exemplify the aesthetics in his figurative paintings. They are shown in vibrant colours and thick brushstrokes. In the piece Fall in Love Again, the artist portrays a woman lost in deep thought, the remains of food and drink nearby. Meanwhile, In the Powder Room, the woman is also engaged in her o🃏wn thoughts. However the presence of her male companion teases the drama behind their relationship, establishing a certain weight in the composition. Both paintings are both enigmatic in meaning. Arifien has captured the beauty and melancholy of domestic life. Delightfully intriguing, and subsequently asking more questions than providing answers, the paintings pull in the audience to engage with the women and their lives.
