There are 4 hairline cracks extending from the rim into the neck, the longest ca. 4cm. There is a star-crack to the sides with associated hairlines and a smaller star-crack to the shoulders. There is overall wear to the glaze, particularly around the shoulders. There is a ca. 10x7cm wide broken out of the sides and restored, the glaze around it sprayed over. There is wear to the glaze on the exterior and wear to the glaze on the interior.

A jar painted with a pine tree formed into a shou character is illustrated in Cecile and Michel Beurdeley, La Ceramique Chinoise, Paris, 1978, pl. 58. A very large dish with this rare design bearing a Jiajing mark, was sold in Sotheby's New York, 20th and 21st May 1980, lot 47.
