本品通景繪《封神演義》，以青花細線勾勒輪廓，又將鈷料渲染其間，濃淡相宜，畫面寬闊，畫片生動，引人注目。《封神演義》乃十六世紀重要白話文小說，描寫商紂王與周武王的對抗戰爭。中心繪商紂王之太師聞仲，騎於墨麒麟上，墨麒麟乃麒麟中最為凶猛之神獸。聞仲雖以少戰多，但其召喚神靈、野獸為之戰鬥，顯示卓越的軍事才能。聞仲終因其堅貞忠勇、奉獻為民，修成雷神­——普化天尊。
