高茜為中國新工筆畫家的代表人物，其作品常以當代物品與傳統文人主題巧妙並置，脫穎而出。本幅雙聯作為其「遊仙窟」系列之一，靈感源自《唐人傳奇》中之名篇《遊仙窟》，描繪一盛一衰。蘭象徵高貴，蝶含性之隱喻，二者構圖精妙，置於淡彩所繪之條紋背景之上，意趣盎然。高茜畢業於南京藝術學院，師從江宏偉習國畫，後又於中國美術學院獲得博士學位。
