上款：「先覺賢婿」乃張大千五女心沛夫婿李先覺。他乃巴西華僑李子章次子，與畫家同籍四川，亦為巴西「八德園」之鄰居，經營農場。李先覺夫婦與女兒李緒瑩甚得大千鍾愛，故獲贈作品極夥。

註：大千好嘗新，無論創作方法，或選用物料，不囿於傳統，他居巴西時，偶得當地溪石，以其質「堅細而發墨」，遂「琢以為硯」，發墨效果甚佳，亟合潑墨所用，故屢試之，以一九六六年所出尤多。本幅即其一。
又因此石而及「端硯」，故國之思油然而生，有詩曰「十年去國想端州，問舍求田浪自愁；顧我肯依夷市老，得君甘為瘴鄉留。」
